Personal message from Nan Li, Current U.S. National Team Member & 2008 U.S. Olympics Women's Team Alternate

Dear York School:

Table Tennis is a great sport for all aspects of one's life.  This sport helps develop one's agility, hand-eye coordination, quicker reflexes - all qualities that can carry over into other parts of one's life.  It is a unique sport that helps with both physical and mental developments.  Many of you might not know, table tennis is the 2nd most popular sport in the world (next to Soccer)... so take this opportunity & join us in one of the fastest growing sports to pong along!

Nan

Ms. Nan Li is also a highly-qualified coach, who is regularly hosting (jointly with her team, the World Champions Coaching Team) one of the best table tennis camps in the world (click here for details).  Josh Kim attended two one-week camps held at Santa Clara in summer 2008.

Personal message from Gil Garcia, the President of the Monterey County Table Tennis Club

Hello, York School staff and student body,

I am Gil Garcia, the president of the Monterey County Table Tennis Club.  One way my kids and I all stay connected is that we play table tennis, even though our entertainment choices are sometimes different.  With our busy schedules this time together is very important in keeping a close relationship.

We find table tennis is a wonderful sport to help you in many ways such as having a fun physical activity.  It helps improve mental alertness that may help with problem solving. Table tennis is available year-round as a social outlet and helps with self-confidence. It's one of the few sports in which size, age, or gender are irrelevant factors.

Many professional athletes in baseball, golf, basketball, tennis and hockey play table tennis during the off-season to keep their skills sharp.  Among the many are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. They often play each other in table tennis as do Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish.

Our slogan is:  "Table Tennis: Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere"

Best Regards,

Gil
